# Jotbins > Jotbins is a Markdown and Mermaid pastebin. Paste Markdown — or have an AI > assistant write it — and share one link that opens as a rendered page: > GitHub-flavored Markdown, syntax-highlighted code, Mermaid diagrams, math, > callouts and emoji shortcodes. Free, no sign-up to read or to start. ## What it renders - GitHub-flavored Markdown: tables, task lists, footnotes, strikethrough, autolinks - Syntax-highlighted code blocks (long lines wrap; readers can toggle per block) - ```mermaid blocks as diagrams (flowchart, sequence, class, ER, gantt, pie, …), exportable as SVG/PNG - Math with KaTeX: `$inline$`, `$$display$$` and ```math blocks - GitHub callouts: `> [!NOTE]`, `> [!TIP]`, `> [!IMPORTANT]`, `> [!WARNING]`, `> [!CAUTION]` - Emoji shortcodes such as `:rocket:` ## Two kinds of links - Pastes: `https://jotbins.com/p/` — stored, optional expiry (1 hour, 1 day, 1 week or never), can be owned and made private by signing in. - Portable links: `https://jotbins.com/d#z:` — the whole document lives in the URL fragment (raw-DEFLATE compressed, base64url, prefixed `z:`). The fragment is never sent to a server and nothing is stored. Long ones can be shortened to `https://surl.jotbins.com/`, which stores the link and deletes it after 30 days without a visit unless kept permanently. ## For AI assistants (MCP) jotview is an MCP server with two tools: - `render_markdown` — turn markdown into a jotbins link; returns a ready-made `[title](url)` markdown link to show the user. Long documents are shortened automatically. - `read_link` — get the markdown behind a jotbins `/d` or `surl.jotbins.com` link. Connect it: - Remote, no install (claude.ai, Claude Desktop, any MCP client with Streamable HTTP): `https://mcp.jotbins.com/mcp` - Claude Code: `claude mcp add -s user --transport http jotview https://mcp.jotbins.com/mcp` - Local stdio: `npx -y jotview mcp` - MCP Registry name: `io.github.jotbins/jotview` ## Command line - `npx jotview notes.md` prints a rendered jotbins link; reads stdin too (`cat spec.md | npx jotview --open`). - `npx jotview decode ` prints the markdown behind a link. `--json` gives machine-readable output. ## Links - [Jotbins](https://jotbins.com/): the app — paste and share - [MCP setup for every tool](https://mcp.jotbins.com): Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI - [jotview on npm](https://www.npmjs.com/package/jotview): CLI and MCP server - [jotview on GitHub](https://github.com/jotbins/jotview): source and docs
